Building on the success of our past two events, we’ll be hosting our third annual Colloquium at Liverpool Street in London on 17th March.
For those not familiar with the event, our Colloquium is the first of our two major in-person events of the year; the second being the Annual Conference held in September. Like the Conference, the Colloquium brings together our entire community of in-house Global Mobility professionals to network with peers. However, each event has a unique focus and provides our members with a different experience and return on the investment of their time.
Why do we call it a Colloquium?
A colloquium is a formal meeting in which experts present, discuss, and critique various topics within their field of expertise. A colloquium typically involves structured presentations followed by question-and-answer sessions, enabling in-depth exploration of subjects.
The word colloquium comes from the Latin term colloquium, which means “conversation” or “dialogue.” The prefix col- denotes “together,” and loquium derives from loqui, meaning “to speak.”
This encapsulates what Expat Academy is all about – fostering dialogue and collaboration among GM professionals to tackle shared challenges and grow as a community.
We’re big on interlocution; frown on vaniloquence and won’t have a jot of magniloquence!
Colloquium vs Conference
Whilst our Annual Conference is a celebration of all things Global Mobility, the Colloquium is a day very much focused on taking time to closely examine some of the most relevant technical issues trending in Global Mobility. This is a real opportunity to upskill, gain valuable insights, and return to the office with practical knowledge you can apply to your GM programme.
What to Expect from the Colloquium
We’ve designed the day so that GM teams can engage in knowledge-sharing sessions that are most relevant to them and their organisation’s programme. Whether you are a team of one or a team of ten, working on spreadsheets from home, or assignment management software in the office, there is essential learning to be had throughout the day.
Thought-provoking community sessions on “What does it mean to be strategic?” and “Commercialising Global Mobility” bookend the day. In between, we offer members a choice of sessions before and after lunch.
In the morning, attendees can elect for:
- Compliance Overview: Stay ahead of evolving tax and immigration regulations impacting Global Mobility or
- The Future of Technology is Now: Discover how cutting-edge technologies, once considered futuristic, are already transforming Global Mobility.
After lunch, members can opt for:
- Compliance Deep Dive: PE Risks & Corporate Tax Challenges: An interactive exploration of Permanent Establishment risks and the corporate tax implications within Global Mobility or
- Do You Really Need a Policy?: Challenge traditional GM policy approaches in this forward-thinking session.
